Dr Gordon said in his interview with A Current Affair,
"There is a danger with machines like this being used in the hands of people who aren't medically qualified where they don't know exactly the outcome or perhaps even the proper use - let alone the misuse"
The Formostar is included on the Australian Register for Therapeutic Goods. Everyone that commences a Formostar treatment is required to complete a Medical Questionnaire. If there is any doubt as to their suitability they must consult a doctor. All Formostar operators are trained and are required to sit a Test For Certification. All customers should be given a handout prior to commencing a wrap explaining how and why it works and what their expectations can be.
Dr Gordon says health risks include hyperthermia. "Something that makes you very hot would seem very dangerous to me"
The Clinical Study for Formostar undertaken in a German University found "The quantity of the supplied heat is large enough to cause the therapeutic effect, without any thermal damage to the organs or the metabolic process."
We ask that everyone that has a Formostar hydrates during and after a wrap. Heat is applied to approximately 50% of the body so the body is still able to use its natural thermoregulation capabilities to dissipate the heat. In addition, heat can be turned down from 80% to 50% output if anyone is uncomfortable during a wrap.
Doctor Gordon also said "It would seem like a pretty elaborate way of doing what you could do by either going to a heated pool or I would say save your money"
The Formostar is ideal for people wanting to kickstart a diet and exercise programme, accelerate results, or for those that cannot exercise. We are not sure how it would be possible to get equivalent results by sitting in a heated pool for either pain relief or weightloss.
